Suitable for warm to cool zones but not for the tropics or for extreme cold areas. Will tolerate temperatures down to 0C degrees. Freesias are renowned for their fragrance and make great cut flowers.
Plant in autumn. Freesias naturalise well in most regions and can be left in the ground for years. They multiply freely and create beautiful natural meadows. Plant them in a sunny position or in light shade for a few hours of the day.
Plant the bulbs pointy end UP and water after planting. Add some granular slow release fertiliser when planting if the soil is poor. Water well weekly when the plants are budding and flowering unless rain is regular. Apply blood and bone at about six weeks after the shoots show. Bait for snails and slugs.
